Frequently asked questions

A few of the questions people often ask before getting in touch.

What can we explore together?

You can talk about anything that is important to you, whether you are experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood, burnout, low self-esteem, grief, relationship difficulties, life changes, past experiences, or feeling stuck or overwhelmed. Some people come to counselling with a clear concern they would like to explore, while others may simply know that something does not feel right. You do not need to have all the answers or know exactly where to begin. We can explore what you are experiencing together, at a pace that feels right for you.

I’ve never had counselling before. What should I expect?

It is completely normal to feel unsure about what to expect. Your first session is an opportunity to get to know each other and discuss what has brought you to counselling. We can talk about what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from counselling. You do not need to have everything figured out before you begin.

What happens in the first session?

Your first session is a gentle introduction to the counselling process. We will discuss what has brought you to counselling, your needs and expectations, and how we can work together. We will also discuss confidentiality, boundaries and the counselling agreement. Before your first session, you may be asked to complete some brief forms to provide relevant information.

What if I don’t know what to say?

That’s completely okay. You do not need to prepare anything or know exactly where to begin. We can take our time and explore what you are experiencing together. Sometimes simply having a safe space to talk can help you begin to make sense of what is going on.

Do I have to talk about everything?

No. You decide what you feel comfortable sharing. Some experiences may take time to talk about, and there is no pressure to discuss something before you feel ready. We will work at a pace that feels appropriate for you.

What if I cry or become emotional?

That’s okay. Counselling is a space where difficult emotions can be expressed safely and without judgement. You do not need to feel embarrassed or apologise for becoming emotional. Your feelings are welcome in the counselling space.

What if I’m worried about being judged?

It is understandable to feel this way, particularly when talking about personal experiences. You will be listened to with respect, compassion and without judgement. My role is to provide a safe and supportive environment where you can feel comfortable being yourself.

Will you tell me what I should do?

No. Counselling is not about telling you how to live your life or making decisions for you. I will work collaboratively with you to explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and options, helping you develop greater understanding and make your own informed choices.

What is your counselling approach?

I am an Integrative Counsellor, which means I draw from different therapeutic approaches according to your individual needs and circumstances. These may include Person-Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic, Existential and Solution-Focused approaches. My practice is grounded in empathy, respect and collaboration, with the aim of providing a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space. Your counselling will be tailored to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

Everyone’s circumstances and needs are different, so there is no fixed number of sessions. Some people may benefit from short-term counselling, while others may choose to continue for longer. We can regularly review your progress and discuss what feels appropriate for you. Sessions may initially be weekly and, where appropriate, move to fortnightly.

How long is each counselling session?

Each counselling session lasts 50 minutes. Sessions are usually arranged at a regular agreed time to provide consistency and continuity throughout your counselling journey.

Do you offer online and face-to-face counselling?

Yes. I offer face-to-face counselling in Enfield, at The Therapy Room, and secure online counselling via Zoom for clients throughout the UK — welcoming clients from across East London, North East London and North London. We can discuss which option is most suitable for your needs and circumstances.

What are the benefits and limitations of online counselling?

Online counselling can offer flexibility, accessibility and the comfort of attending sessions from your own space. However, it may not suit everyone. Some people prefer face-to-face sessions or may find it more difficult to focus or engage online. A stable internet connection and a private, quiet space are also important to help you feel comfortable and able to speak openly.

Is what I say in counselling confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of the counselling relationship. What you share is treated with respect and kept private within the professional and ethical boundaries of counselling. There are limited circumstances where information may need to be shared, such as serious concerns about your safety or the safety of another person, or safeguarding concerns. These limits will be explained clearly at the beginning of counselling so that you understand how confidentiality works.

What if I don’t feel comfortable with my counsellor?

The relationship between you and your counsellor is important. You should feel respected, listened to and safe. If something does not feel right, you are encouraged to talk about it so that we can explore your concerns openly. Finding the right therapeutic relationship is an important part of counselling.

Will counselling make everything better straight away?

Counselling is not a quick fix, and everyone’s experience is different. Change can take time. Some people may notice changes gradually as they develop a greater understanding of themselves, their experiences and the challenges they are facing. We will work at a pace that is appropriate for you.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a free 20-minute introductory consultation with no obligation to continue. This gives you an opportunity to briefly discuss what you are looking for, ask any questions you may have and get a sense of whether counselling with WeCare Counselling & Mentoring Services feels right for you.

What are your fees?

Counselling sessions are £70 for 50 minutes. I also offer a limited number of spaces at a reduced rate for clients who may be experiencing financial difficulties. Please get in touch to discuss availability.

How do I know if counselling is right for me?

You do not need to be completely sure before getting in touch. If something is affecting your wellbeing, relationships or everyday life, counselling can provide a safe space to explore what you are experiencing. The free introductory consultation also gives you an opportunity to ask questions and decide whether counselling feels right for you.

How do I book an appointment?
