My approach

Integrative counselling — tailored to you, never one-size-fits-all.

My approach: integrative counselling

At the heart of my work is the therapeutic relationship. I believe that feeling safe, respected, heard and understood is an important part of creating a space where you can talk openly and explore what is happening in your life. I aim to build a genuine and trusting professional relationship where you feel comfortable being yourself, without pressure or judgement.

I work from an integrative counselling framework, recognising that every person is different and that there is no single therapeutic approach that will work for everyone. Rather than using the same method with every client, I draw from a range of counselling approaches and therapeutic techniques, adapting our work to your individual needs, experiences, preferences and goals.

An integrative approach allows us to consider different aspects of your life and experience, including your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, relationships, past experiences, values, beliefs, strengths and hopes for the future. Together, we can explore what may be contributing to your current difficulties while also recognising your strengths and personal resources.

Our work is collaborative, meaning that you remain actively involved in the counselling process. Your values, preferences and goals remain central to the way we work together.

We can discuss what you would like to explore, consider which approaches may be helpful and regularly reflect on whether the work continues to meet your needs.

Approaches I may draw from

Depending on your individual needs, I may draw from approaches such as:

Person-Centred Therapy – offering empathy, acceptance and a supportive environment where you can explore your experiences.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – exploring the relationship between thoughts, feelings and behaviours and developing more helpful ways of responding to challenges.

Psychodynamic approaches – exploring how past experiences, relationships and patterns may influence your thoughts, feelings and relationships today.

Existential Therapy – exploring identity, values, meaning, choices and what is important to you.

Solution-Focused approaches – identifying strengths, possibilities and practical steps towards the future you would like.

Mindfulness – developing greater awareness of the present moment and learning ways to respond to thoughts and emotions with greater calm and awareness.

Self-Compassion – developing a kinder and more understanding relationship with yourself, particularly during times of difficulty, self-doubt or emotional distress.

Where appropriate and within my professional competence, I may also incorporate other evidence-informed therapeutic techniques to support your individual needs.

Mentoring skills

Mentoring alongside counselling

As a mentor, I aim to provide practical, supportive and encouraging guidance that helps you move towards the goals that matter to you. My approach is based on active listening, effective communication, encouragement, goal setting, problem-solving and helping you recognise your own strengths and abilities.

Together, we can explore where you are now, where you would like to be and what may be getting in the way. I can help you turn ideas into realistic steps, build confidence, explore your options and develop strategies that support positive change.

Mentoring is a collaborative process, so you remain in control of your decisions while I offer support, structure, encouragement and a different perspective to help you move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
